There’s Going To Be A Final Fantasy Musical Next Year…

Did anyone ask for a Final Fantasy musical? How about one for its pretty successful spin-off for iOS and Android? No one else? Guess it’s just you, Japan.

The free-to-play gacha-savvy title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius will be a musical for the stage in March 2020 (via IT Media). I’m dead serious: Square Enix is approving this side story to be played by live actors with its own music over its mothership titles. This may be an experimental pick to test the waters before using its big guns, but it’s still ballsy nonetheless.

The musical will be written by Fumiya Matsuzaki, who penned the Super Danganronpa 2 musical. That also is a thing too, I guess. FFBE The Musical will run from 6th to 15th March in Tokyo and 20th to 29th March in Kobe.

FFBE was released in Japan on 22nd October 2015 to middling to huge fanfare. It’s a mobile JRPG with turn-based combat reminiscent of Brave Frontier, and comes with its own awesome-looking 2D sprites. It even has cameos from other mothership FF titles and even other Square Enix characters like Deus Ex’s Adam Jensen and Just Cause 3’s Rico Rodriguez. And Ariana Grande and Katy Perry for some reason that will only be known by some oddball Square Enix shareholder.
