Netflix Confirms Resident Evil Live-Action Series

A Netflix Resident Evil series was leaked earlier this year, but now the streaming giant has confirmed the news.

Netflix has announced a new live-action TV series based on the Capcom’s popular Resident Evil series of video games that will be produced by Constantin Film, the same company that made the previous six Resident Evil films starring Milla Jovovich.

The upcoming series will feature an original story set within the world of the Resident Evil, set across two timelines.

The first will focus on sisters Jade and Billie Wesker (likely related to iconic franchise antagonist Albert Wesker) move to the corporate town of New Raccoon City at age 14, before realizing the destination and their father “may be concealing dark secrets”.

The second timeline will jump 16 years into the future, with the Earth devastated by Resident Evil’s signature zombie-making T-virus, and focus on Jade (and the less than 15 million human survivors) trying to survive in a world overrun by six billion mutated monsters.

Andrew Dabb, who had previously worked as a writer and co-executive producer on Supernatural, will serve as the showrunner, executive producer, and writer for Netflix’s Resident Evil, with Bronwen Hughes (best known for her work on The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Better Call Saul) set to direct the first two episodes of the series.

While Netflix’s Resident Evil is being produced by the same production company, it hasn’t been confirmed if the story will tie in or crossover to the existing movie franchise, or be tied to the game franchise instead. Other details, including the cast and release date, remain unknown.
