Spider-Man 3’s Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield Castings Are Officially “Unconfirmed”

After the confirmation of Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the untitled sequel to 2019’s Spider-Man Far From Home, rumours of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprising their roles as Spider-Man have gone rampant and viral online.

So much so that people are sharing made-up fan art and spreading unfounded rumours of both actors seemingly having confirmed to return in Spider-Man 3. We’re sorry to ultimately disappoint you, folks, but it looks like they’ll remain speculations for now.

In an official statement to ET Canada, a Sony Pictures representative said:

“Those rumoured castings are not confirmed.”

Yeah, Sony Pictures didn’t exactly directly deny the rumours, but they’ll remain unconfirmed as of now. Perhaps there is some truth to the rumours; maybe both actors are still in talks with the company, or they want it to be a genuine surprise. Anything is possible, but right now the answer is:

No, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will not be reprising their iconic roles as Peter Parker AKA Spider-Man in Spider-Man 3.

We’ll have to wait until Sony Pictures eventually announces something, or not. Simply spreading these rumours on the Internet like wildfire won’t make them come true.

In the meantime, you can check out our review of Spider-Man Far From Home, which remains the last MCU movie to have been released to date. The next MCU movie we’ll be catching is Black Widow, and that’s going to be in 2021.
