We Might Get A New Edition of Persona 5 Soon

Last year, Atlus had bought and registered a couple of domain names related to the Persona franchise. Recently on Christmas day 2018, the developer updated one of the domain names, P5R.jp, and moved it to one of their own name servers.

This move suggests that a possible announcement of a Persona 5 R edition could be coming soon. According to Gematsu, previous Atlus game announcements adhered to the same pattern, with an official announcement often following the act of domain names being moved to the company’s name servers.

Past examples of this include Persona Q2: New Shadow Labyrinth, Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight, Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, and Catherine: Full Body.

What Could Persona 5 R Edition Be?

Until Atlus officially announces Persona 5 R, we can only speculate what it might be. It could be an expanded version of Persona 5 with additional stories or gameplay features in the vein of Persona 4 Golden. Another possibility is that Persona 5 R could be coming out for the Nintendo Switch, similar to how Persona 4 Golden launched on the PS Vita or how the upcoming Dragon Quest XI S will be coming out on the Switch.

A Persona 5 the Animation: Dark Sun special is slated to air on December 30, 2018, alongside new details about the Persona Super Live 2019 concert. It’s the earliest probable time for a Persona 5 R announcement.
