Monster Hunter World Sold 14 Million, Making It A Capcom First In Years
The latest expansion for Monster Hunter World, Iceborne, is really reinvigorating more love for Capcom’s meal ticket franchise that doesn’t involve zombies and street fighting. So much so that the game holds the current achievement of shipping and selling over 14 million copies worldwide.
To put things into perspective:
- Resident Evil 5, a survival horror game that allegedly made fun of Africans back in 2009, sold 12.34 million copies.
- Street Fighter II, some indie fighting game from 1991, sold 15.2 million copies.
That makes the 14 million copies all the more impressive in this day and age, especially for a company still in its redemption arc (eg. RE2 Remake, Devil May Cry 5). As of right now, that expansion has garnered 2.5 million on its own. Pretty impressive, if you asked us.
As of now, the Monster Hunter series has totalled over 58 million copies sold. With a Resident Evil crossover on the way, there’s no slowing this beast down.
