“Iconic” RPG Gothic Is Getting A Remake
THQ Nordic has announced that Gothic, a German RPG that originally released back in 2001, is getting a remake. Main development on the game will begin as soon as their new Barcelona-based studio is set up.
The announcement comes after a positive reaction to last December’s Gothic Playable Teaser. According to THQ Nordic, feedback from players showed that over 90 percent of fans were interested in a remake of the “iconic” title.
The Gothic Playable Teaser has a ‘Mostly Positive’ user rating on Steam, although recent reviews are mixed. In contrast, 2010’s ArcaniA has ‘Mostly Positive’ recent reviews but a ‘Mixed’ overall user rating. Perhaps the most damning sign of ArcaniA‘s failure is its title: it was originally called ArcaniA: Gothic 4, but the Gothic name has now been stripped away from its title.
Meanwhile, the first three Gothic games continue to enjoy high ratings on Steam. We’ll wait and see if the Gothic remake can reach their heights, or at least avoid ArcaniA‘s fate.
