Amazon’s Overwatch-Like Hero Shooter Crucible Launches Later This Month

Publisher Amazon Game Studios and developer Relentless Studios have announced a release date for their upcoming free-to-play team-based PvP online multiplayer shooter; simply titled Crucible. This will be Amazon Game Studios’ first big-budget original IP.

In Crucible, players can choose from ten different hunters comes with their own unique set of abilities, similar to the heroes in Overwatch or legends in Apex Legends. Before each match, players will also be able to select which upgrades to unlock as they level up, which can be achieved by collecting a source of energy called Essence (obtainable from killing enemies and the creatures strewn around the map).

Crucible 1

There will be three distinct game modes at launch, each of which will be the game’s version of popular modes. The first is Heart of the Hives, a 4v4 mode pitting two teams against each other and large enemy boss hives that pop up throughout the map. Each hive contains a heart, and the first team to snag three hives/hearts wins.

The second, Alpha Hunters, will pit eight teams of two players each against one another in a battle royale-style contest like Apex Legends, with the last team standing declared the winner.

Crucible 4

Meanwhile, the last mode, Harvester Command, is probably inspired by MOBA titles like Dota 2 and League of Legends. It pits two teams of eight players against each another in a contest to be the fastest team to earn 100 points by collecting Essence.

Crucible is slated to release for PC via Steam on 20 May 2020. It will likely face fierce competition from Riot Games’ multiplayer shooter Valorant, which is slated to launch sometime in summer 2020 (albeit already being in closed beta right now).

Crucible 7
