Here’s A Sneak Peek At The World Ends With You Anime, Out 2021
Square Enix will be adapting its cult hit DS RPG The World Ends With You (or Subarashiki Kono Sekai) for 2021 in anime series form courtesy of DOMERICA x SHIN-EI ANIMATION production. To sate everyone’s thirst for this, they have published a sneak preview of the animation, featuring main characters Neku, Shiki, and Beat, as well as the antagonists.
For those who don’t recall the plot, it’s about a loner named Neku who ends up playing the Reaper’s Game, a competition where the dead can return for a price in hopes of winning the ability to reincarnate or ascend. It’s up to him to find out the mystery of his death within a seven day-deadline, teaming up with new allies while fighting enemies and obstacles thrown at him by an overseer named the Composer.
There was also a panel held at theAnime Expo Lite streaming session just today featuring game producer Tomohiko Hirano, game director Tetsuya Kando, anime director Kazuya Ichikawa and composer Takeharu Ishimoto. The producer and game director have been working directly with the anime staff from the start, with 100% backing from the game team.
Ichikawa added that he wants this adaptation of TWEWY to be his masterpiece, seeing as his past works include Clean Freak! Aoyama kun, Bakugan, and Monster Strike: Rain of Memories. He also has to modernize this adaptation since the original game’s timeline was 14 years ago and is in a contemporary setting, as well as figure out how to adapt certain character’s Fusion movie in anime form.
“I realized that viewers today might not even recognize a flip phone. So some parts we keep and some parts we change on purpose.” He assured that the anime will have its own story rollercoasters and will be adapted so that it’s slightly different from the original game’s crazy plot.
The TWEWY anime series will be out worldwide next year.
