Here’s A Quick Fighting Game News Roundup For This Special Weekend

Just a few hours ago, Japan’s fighting game publishers did an online roundtable via livestream for all to see. We’re talking representatives from Capcom, Bandai Namco, Arc System Works, SNK, Arika, and Koei Tecmo.

Here’s a roundup of what’s been revealed during the livestream, in case you missed it this morning or just need the bullet points version on one handy-dandy list.

SNK

Samurai Shodown will be getting a Season Pass 3. There’s not much else for them to say beyond that due to COVID-19 putting a damper on their scheduling and development.

Just to put it out there, all the devs here will have to push back their content due to the worldwide pandemic. In the meantime, go play with your rabbit girl in SamSho.

Bandai Namco

First up: Soul Calibur 6. Swordswoman Setsuka will be coming back as the next DLC character in the 3D weapons-based fighting game.

Of course they’ll be news for Tekken 7. The game will be receiving a fourth Season Pass. This includes new moves for all characters and online play enhancements. At the end of the trailer, we get a tease of a character. We can’t make it out because he/she is so tiny and far away from the camera. We’re guessing it’s a ninja-type character like Kunimitsu.

Season 4 will be ready by Fall 2020.

Arc System Works

ASW has announced two new characters in its upcoming fighting game Guilty Gear Strive: Guilty Gear Xrd character Leo Whitefang and newcomer Nagoriyuki.

Leo still has parries, frame trap shenanigans, and his many twin cross blades attacks from the previous game, while Nagoriyuki is a katana wielder who can power up his slashes (and extend its already-long range) using a command grab that absorbs his opponent’s blood. Those blood bits can also fly out to Nagoriyuki via other special attacks.

The game will be out in early 2021.

This next one isn’t exactly from the stream, but it’s still worth mentioning. ARCREVO America Online 2020 and ARCREVO Japan 2020 are launching later this year and will feature BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and more fighting games. There might be a special announcement for ASW games during the tournament, so it’s probably best to keep an eye on this.

Also, the ARCREVO artworks are sick.

Capcom

Not much, apart from an announcement regarding its upcoming Season V DLC for Street Fighter 5 which will be happening on 6th August 1am GMT+8. And that pro wrestling superstar Kenny Omega will be making the announcements.
