HBO Max Renews Harley Quinn For Season 3

The R-rated Harley Quinn animated series has been renewed for a third season by HBO Max, as the DC Universe streaming service gets replaced by a more comics-centric DC Universe Infinite subscription service.

Only two years after it launched, DC Universe is officially going to stop producing original video content and focus on being a comic book platform. However, all of the platform’s scripted originals and library titles will move to fellow Warner Media-backed streaming service HBO Max.

These include Titans, Doom Patrol, Young Justice, and of course, Harley Quinn.

DC Universe Infinite is set to launch on 21 January 2021 with more than 24,000 comic books, as well as digital-first comics, exclusive access to DC fan events, and a stream of recently-released comics six months after the physical versions hit store shelves. Following its initial launch, DC Universe Infinite will then begin expanding globally in summer 2021 onwards.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Harley Quinn co-showrunners Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern said:

“Season 2 ended a while ago.

We knew the show show was doing pretty well on DC Universe.

We knew the show was gonna end up on HBO Max eventually, and we knew that that there were talks happening about a season three, but all of that was happening like almost right when quarantine started.

So we had a really long time to think about what we might do, or at least the gist of the story that we might want to tell for season 3.

We’re just super excited to finally actually be able to put that into action and actually get the ideas ping-ponging off both the returning writers and the inevitable new writers that we’re getting to hire now.

I am very excited to finally get those ideas out and about in the ether.”

They also confirmed that Kite Man and Bane will return in Season 3. During the DC FanDome event just last week, they revealed that Season 3 will focus on expanding the romantic relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.

However, it will likely be a while before we’ll see the release of Harley Quinn Season 3. In the meantime, the first two seasons are definitely highly-recommended.
