Sony has announced huge numbers for the shipments of its PS5 and PS4 consoles, the former being quite elusive and still hard to get.
PS5 has shipped 19.3 million units worldwide and the PS4 has shipped 117.2 million units according to Sony’s financial results for the fiscal year ending on 31 March 2022. Here are some additional stats mentioned by the company:
- There are 47.4 million PlayStation Plus subscribers as of March 31, 2022, which is down 0.2 million from the 47.6 million subscribers during the same period the previous fiscal year.
- PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 software combined sold 70.5 million units in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2021, which is up 9.1 million from the 61.4 million software sold during the same period the previous fiscal year.
- 14.5 million units were first-party titles, which is up 6.6 million from to the 7.9 million sold during the same period the previous fiscal year.
- 71 percent of software sales were full game software digital downloads, compared to 79 percent the previous year.
Hopefully this humblebragging means the PS5 would be easier to get off the shelves this year without going through a lot of hassle. Time will tell if that will actually happen.
