PS5 Supply Problems To Only Ease Up By 2024
We’re in the second year of the PS5, and the latest Sony console is still extremely difficult to find and buy. Most places are still out of stock and even when they get new ones, these PS5s get snapped up in a heartbeat. According to a Sony financial presentation, that problem will continue until at least 2024.
Sony acknowledged the problems with the PS5 supplies, and the slides show while the PS5 outsold the PS4 in its first year (2020), it fell behind in the year after (2021) due to supply issues. The company is not expecting PS5 supplies to normalize and for sales to overtake the PS4 again until at least 2024, which is still two years away from now.
To combat the PS5 shortage, there’s nothing they can realistically do. The chip shortage means that it’s impossible to make more PS5s. Recently, all they can do is increase the production of PS4 consoles, which does nothing to really satisfy the demand for the PS5, especially as more and more current-gen exclusives begin to launch in the near future.
