Grand Theft Auto 6 May Take Place In Miami & Features Female Lead Character
Sources close to Bloomberg said that the upcoming Rockstar sandbox open-world crime spree game will feature its first-ever female protagonist.
Bloomberg claims that Grand Theft Auto 6 will take place in a version of Miami and features a female playable character. The game’s development started in 2014 and the game will be out in 2 years’ time.
“Early designs called for the inclusion of territories modelled after large swaths of North and South America. The company reeled in those ambitions and cut the main map down to a fictional version of Miami and its surrounding areas.
[The female protagonist], who is Latina, will be one of a pair of leading characters in a story influenced by the bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde, the people said. Developers are also being cautious not to “punch down” by making jokes about marginalized groups, the people said, in contrast to previous games.”
Other tidbits from Bloomberg include the game’s single-player map to be updated over time, with new missions and cities added on a regular basis. This may mean less crunch during the game’s final months. On the flip side, GTA 6 will feature more interior locations than past GTA titles.
Why the changes? Well, it has a lot to do with Rockstar’s cultural overhaul after reports of Red Dead Redemption 2’s 100-hour work weeks were out in public.
“Due to some of the changes that the company implemented in an effort to improve working conditions, such as a restructuring of the design department and a pledge to keep overtime under control.“
GTA 6 will be out in either 2024 or 2025 according to various sources. At the very least, there will be an official reveal and announcement in 2023.
