The last news we received of the game was back in March 2022 during a PlayStation State Of Play.
Players can create their own character and assume the role of a new student who has to enroll into a fifth-year curriculum immediately. The game is set in the 1800s, and so it is set even before the events of the Fantastic Beasts films, and of course, the Harry Potter movies.
You start out the game by getting sorted into your house of choice via the Sorting Hat (Ravenclaw, please!). Then, you’ll be able to attend classes at Hogwarts, including Defense Against The Dark Arts, Potions, Herbology and more. The live stream also reveals that players will be able to explore beyond just Hogwarts, including iconic Wizarding World locations like Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest and inside the Gringotts bank.
Players will be able to make difference combos and use different playstyles according to their choice of spells. The gameplay footage also teases that players can learn Unforgivable Curses like Avada Kedavra, the iconic death spell used by Voldemort. Do you go in wands-blazing by using Accio to pull an enemy close before blasting them with Incendio? Or do you cast the Disillusionment Charm to take a stealthier approach, finishing off enemies with a silent Petrificus Totalus takedown? Different techniques will be required to counter enemy strengths and weaknesses that should make every encounter feel engaging.
The storyline seems to involve a goblin rebellion and some dark wizards/witches, but not much has been revealed. Besides that, players will be able to cultivate plants and magical beasts, as well as do side quests and complete dungeons. And yes, you can fly broomsticks and even Hippogriffs over the open world of the game.
