Netflix Cancels Resident Evil Series After One Season
Netflix announced that it is cancelling the Resident Evil series after just one season, much to the surprise of no one.
Not even the pivotal charisma of Lance Reddick could save the series from being axed, a month after its release (via Deadline). The series debuted in second place on Netflix’s top 10 with 72.7 million hours viewed, but had no meaningful rise in the next few weeks. The show was reviewed poorly by critics and viewers via a 55% critical rating at Rotten Tomatoes, except for outliers like GameSpot which gave it a stellar review for reasons beyond our comprehension.
Though to be fair, Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker was the best part of the show, whether it was intentionally serious or unintentionally funny. Plus, some of the CGI for the monsters weren’t too shabby. These things aren’t enough to put the show beyond its mediocre offering and tryhard attitude.
No word on whether Capcom will be greenlighting more Netflix adaptations in the future. After all, Dragon’s Dogma and Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness aren’t going to make a dent on Arcane’s throne.
