[Rumour] Star Wars: The Knights Of The Old Republic Remake Will Move From Aspyr Media To Saber Interactive
Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic is getting a full-fledged remake, but so far there’s no progress.
The claims that the project is on hiatus may be true, as involved partners in the project such as Embracer, Sony, and Disney/Lucasfilm are unhappy with it so far. So much so that the trio have moved the project from Aspyr Media to Saber Interactive. Sources close to Bloomberg added that the game will take at least two more years to finish.
“One of the Group’s AAA projects has transitioned to another studio within the Group. This was done to ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title. We are not expecting any material delays for the title based on this transition.”
Why was Aspyr relieved of development duties in the first place? Because the company had fired the game’s former design director Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor. The two of them were dismissed shortly after the studio finalised a demo of the game (which was disproportionately funded & given leeway to develop time-wise) to show to Lucasfilm and Sony; this turn of events was unexpected. The Star Wars: KOTOR remake was slated for an end of 2022 release, but a more realistic timeline would be 2025 given current alleged circumstances.
