Warner Bros. Discovery Slows Down Development Of Upcoming DC Movies
By Alleef Ashaari|August 11, 2022|0 Comment
After just cancelling the Batgirl movie last week, Warner Bros. Discovery seems to be assessing all the other DC film projects as well. Ongoing DC film projects have been slowed down, including Supergirl, Static Shock, Green Lantern Corps and the new Black Superman movie written by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
That’s according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, whose insiders told them that many inside DC were “pissed” at Warner Bros. Discovery’s new approach. In fact, DC Films president Walter Hamada himself almost quit after the Batgirl movie was cancelled, but he’s only staying on until the Black Adam movie releases this October. According to the same sources, Hamada planned to make a Crisis On Infinite Earths event for DC movies, as well as a Secret Six movie, featuring another iconic supervillain team from the DC universe ala the Suicide Squad.
The only confirmed safe projects include those under James Gunn (including Peacemaker Season 2), Blue Beetle starring Cobra Kai star Xolo Mariduena and Joker 2 or Joker Folie A Deux. The Flash movie also seems like it’s moving forward, but anything can happen now that Warner Bros. has new leadership in the form of new CEO David Zaslav.
As DC Comics fans, we hope all of these projects still see the light of day and don’t get unceremoniously cancelled like Batgirl. A single movie or TV series can take the hard work of hundreds of people, not to mention money, time and other resources. It’s unfortunate to let all that go to waste, no matter how bad the end product apparently is (Batgirl was considered to be not good enough for release by new Warner Bros. Discovery bosses).
