There Is No Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2, Producer Says

In a “No s***, Sherlock” moment, the producer of the hit Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners had to remind the public that the show is a one-off standalone limited series.

CD Projekt Red’s Japan country manager Satoru Honma said in a Famitsu interview that there are no plans to continue the story even with the massively positive reaction which may lead to a second season.

“I personally would like to continue to work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback. However, just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there’s no such thing as ‘we are actually working on Season 2 in the background.

Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different.”

If you have finished watching Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, it’s clear as day that the show is a standalone series, given how it ended. Regardless, the show itself is a huge hit and is on Netflix’s global top ten for over a month, and even got people playing Cyberpunk 2077 in droves. Heck, it even made Honma state that Studio Trigger’s work saved the Cyberpunk 2077 game franchise.

“Overseas people say that the anime has given CDPR a second chance. We are grateful to TRIGGER for giving us the chance to enjoy the story of V and Johnny Silverhand after watching the anime.”
