Riot Games Allegedly Hit By Layoffs

It hasn’t been a great week for those working in the games industry. The publisher behind League Of Legends and Valorant, Riot Games, has allegedly been laying off its employees.

The source comes from esports reporter Jacob Wolf, who tweeted that “multiple people” have told him that Riot Games have been making layoffs across multiple departments.

However, at the time of writing, Riot Games has yet to officially confirm or deny the allegations.

Wolf tweeted:

“Riot Games is making layoffs, which started earlier today, multiple people have told me. Size and scope are unclear at the moment, so far I’ve heard of effects across recruiting and human resources, support and esports.

Riot’s historically not made many reductions in force in the past, but it’s in line with a broader trend in tech, gaming and entertainment as economic hardship begins to affect many corporations.”

Earlier this week, the biggest news about layoffs was that Microsoft laid off a whopping 10,000 employees around the world, including those at 343 Industries, Bethesda and more. The situation isn’t looking good for the games industry going into 2023, as the world is preparing for a potential economic global recession.
