Will Final Fantasy 16 Be Delayed? Heck No, Said Producer

It’ll be a few months until Final Fantasy 16 comes out on PlayStation 5 on 22 June. Many people speculate whether this title will be delayed like other Final Fantasy games.

It won’t, according to producer Naoki Yoshida. According to translated comments at a Final Fantasy 16 press event held in New York (via Polygon), Yoshida said the game will not be delayed “unless a meteor falls on Japan”. He also brought up the fact that Final Fantasy games can get delayed at the last minute, alluding towards titles like Final Fantasy 15 and Final Fantasy VII Remake. The former was delayed for 6 more weeks while the latter was delayed for another 7 weeks.

It seems as if Naoki Yoshida and his team are very adamant about the game coming out on 22 June. Of course, the recent previews and hands-on that popped up did show that Square Enix is confident about its upcoming sequel.

The previews so far state that Final Fantasy 16 is a good mix between an action game ala Devil May Cry and a dark fantasy drama like your Game of Thrones. There’s a hint of Ivalice politics and style of worldbuilding in Final Fantasy 16, given that Yoshida and co. are fans of that particular FF universe. That’s generally a step in the right direction, so I approve!
