We previously brought up huge opening sales numbers of the Super Mario Bros. film when it aired on 6th April onward. Now we can confirm that those numbers are beyond the millions worldwide, to nobody’s surprise.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie passes US$500 million on a global scale, becoming this year’s biggest video game adaptation ever (via Variety). The film earned US$248.4 million outside of the USA; with its combined total, it tops the grosses of Warcraft and Detective Pikachu.

If we’re counting animated hits, Super Mario Bros. Movie is now the second biggest animated film since 2019, coming in ahead Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (US$494 million) and behind Minions: The Rise of Gru (US$942.5 million). Again, it’s not much of a shock when you remember Mario being a big pop culture name alongside Mickey Mouse and Goku.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be out in Malaysia on 20th April. You can watch it for free if you participate in our TGV collab contest! Don’t be left out on the Rainbow Road.
