Pixel Art Anime Adventure Game Tokyo Stories Is Delayed Indefinitely

Japanese-based game studio Drecom announced pixel art adventure game Tokyo Stories will be postponed from its original 2023 release year to an unannounced date. The game is set to drop for consoles and PC via Steam.

A statement from producer Yuki Ikeda was posted on Tokyo Stories’ Twitter account, confirming the game’s delay. Although the project was initially intended to be small, its scope grew as the team implemented more ideas. This made them realise they needed more time to make the project better and wanted to give a better experience for the gaming community. Luckily, fans are able to get their hands on the Tokyo Stories demo at BitSummit Let’s Go!! in Kyoto from 14 to 16 July 2023.

Tokyo Stories is a 3D adventure game that mixes both media of pixel graphics and 3D combining with a lo-fi cyberpunk atmosphere. A game where players have to solve puzzles around Tokyo in order to find the disappearance of the protagonist’s best friend. Three characters with different stories overlap with unsolved mysteries.

Read the full message from the Tokyo Stories’ producer Yuki Ikeda:

“Tokyo Stories was originally scheduled to be released in 2023. Unfortunately, after much consideration we have decided to postpone the release schedule to “to be determined” status. We are very sorry for all the people who have been looking forward to the release of Tokyo Stories to be made this year.

Our original plan of the title was to be a rather small project. But as our team worked on the project day by day, we came to a realization that we had more ideas and contents we wanted to implement in Tokyo Stories than we originally had in mind.

It was a difficult decision for us, but at the same time, it was a chance to make the project even better. From the day when we made our first announcement of Tokyo Stories last year, we have been encouraged by many positive reactions and opinions we received from everyone. The voices of the community have driven us to be confident in what we were making. We would like to express our thanks for the support that the community have given us over the year.

With our goal of creating a memorable experience for everyone, we are now working together as a team with all our might to develop this project.
We have prepared a small playable version that will be showcased at our booth in the upcoming “BitSummit Let’s Go!” and we are hoping you will come and visit us!

We are still working hard to bring Tokyo Stories to you, and it will take some time until the full official release. We appreciate your patience and understanding over this matter, and we look forward to your continued support!”
