Godzilla Minus One Is Toho’s Next Godzilla Movie

Last year in September 2022, Toho announced a new Japanese Godzilla movie. Now it has a title and it’s Godzilla Minus One, which will premiere in Japan on 3 November 2023 and in the US on 1 December 2023.

In a statement via Gormaru, Koji Ueda, President of Toho International, said:

“Set in a post-war Japan, Godzilla Minus One will once again show us a Godzilla that is a terrifying and overwhelming force, which you already get a sense of from the teaser trailer and poster.

The concept is that Japan, which had already been devastated by the war, faces a new threat with Godzilla, bringing the country into the ‘minus.’”

Takashi Yamazaki (Lupin III: The First) is directing the new movie, which will be the 30th live-action film in Toho’s long-running kaiju franchise after 2016’s Shin Godzilla.

Godzilla Minus One is said to share continuity with Shin Godzilla, but it’s currently unclear how.
