Magic The Gathering Announces Crossovers With Iconic Video Game Franchises
At the Magic The Gathering 30th anniversary panel at GenCon, Wizards Of The Coast announced that Magic The Gathering will be crossing over with several iconic franchises, including those from the video games industry. In the next two years, players can expect Magic The Gathering to cross over with the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed, as well as Jurassic World.
The first to arrive will be Fallout; in the form of preconstructed decks for use in Commander, where four players go head to head with 100-card decks, each led by a single legendary Commander who can be played at any time. Similar to the crossovers with Warhammer 40,000 and Doctor Who, the Magic The Gathering Fallout cards will only be valid for use in Commander.
The Magic The Gathering Final Fantasy crossover is planned for sometime in 2025, but it will be available in booster packs, and likely valid in many formats. It’s confirmed that these cards will cover the original Final Fantasy to the recently-released Final Fantasy 16. As for the Assassin’s Creed crossover, it’s coming in July 2024 in the form of Beyond Boosters, a new type of booster pack that contains both new cards and reprints.
Last but not least, the Jurassic World cards will be arriving in the form of booster inserts as part of an upcoming set called The Lost Caverns of Ixalan.
