Capcom’s Onimusha Anime Series Announced; Premiere On Netflix In November

Netflix has announced an upcoming anime series based on the iconic Capcom video game franchise, Onimusha. The survival action game is the 9th best-selling franchise in Capcom history, having sold over 8.6 million copies worldwide.

What makes Onimusha truly groundbreaking is its fusion of cutting-edge 3D CGI character animations with beautifully hand-drawn backgrounds. This amalgamation of traditional and modern animation techniques promises to bring a fresh, immersive experience to both long-time fans and newcomers alike.

This anime adaptation is produced by Sublimation, with Takashi Miike and Shinya Sugai as the creators. The voice cast includes:

  • Akio Otsuka as Musashi Miyamoto
  • Toshihiko Seki as Kojiro Sasaki
  • Hochu Otsuka as Kensuke Matsui
  • Daiki Yamashita as Sahei

  • Katsuyuki Konishi as Heikuro
  • Kazuyuki Okitsu as Kaizen
  • Makoto Furukawa as Gensai

Set in the early Edo Period, the anime series focuses on Miyamoto Musashi, a character modelled after the late Japanese screen icon Toshiro Mifune. During this time, Japan was transitioning towards peace, and warfare was fading into history. However, an ageing Musashi finds himself embarking on a covert mission that would test his skills and determination.

Equipped with the mythical “Oni Gauntlet,” Musashi sets off on an epic journey to vanquish the lurking demons that threaten the peace. As he encounters various challenges and adversaries, Musashi’s strength and resolve are put to the ultimate test. Will he be able to overcome the demons and ensure the continuation of peace in Japan? We’ll have to wait to find out.

The Onimusha anime series is slated to premiere on 2 November 2023 exclusively on Netflix.
