Yakuza Series Creator Toshihiro Nagoshi May Feature Western Actors In His Next Game

The Yakuza series creator, Toshihiro Nagoshi, has expressed that he may use Western actors in his unannounced next game. Nagoshi, who is currently running Nagoshi Studio, wants to create a cinematic gaming experience that appeals to a global audience.

Over the years, the Yakuza series, known outside Japan as Like a Dragon, has featured an all-Japanese cast in each game. As an alternative, Nagoshi intends to add actors from different regions to his upcoming project as a way to expand its international appeal.

According to his recent interview with VGC, the outlet asked whether he would consider casting Western celebrities or actors. He responded:

“If we’re going to use actors, there’s definitely a high possibility that we’d use someone outside of Japan.”

Currently, the casting process for the game is still in its infancy, as Nagoshi has a good deal of focus on improving the core gameplay. He hopes actors’ fame and popularity will help the project gain much-needed attention outside of Japan.

When discussing the tone of the project, Nagoshi sought inspiration from Quentin Tarantino’s films. His aim is to achieve a harmonious blend of drama, violence, humour, and a human touch. By combining these elements, he hopes to create an immersive experience that encompasses both seriousness and silliness. Nagoshi recognizes the importance of striking the right balance between these contrasting emotions.

With the Yakuza series’ success, fans can have high hopes for his upcoming game and the possibility of a more diverse cast.
