M5 World Championship – Day 1: Surpassing 1 Million Viewers During Opening Day

The M5 World Championship achieved a viewership milestone by surpassing one million viewers on its opening day, which was filled with unexpected twists.

The tournament began with the favoured team AP.Bren dominating Burmese Ghouls, showcasing a more significant gap between the teams compared to their previous encounter at the M2 World Championship Grand Finals in Singapore. The MPL Philippines Season 12 champions effortlessly defeated their Burmese opponents in a clean sweep during Game 1, with the coach, Francis “Ducky” Glindro, attributing the team’s improvements to lessons learned from MPLI.

The Group of Death started with Fire Flux Esports sweeping Team SMG. Despite a competitive struggle in Game 1, Fire Flux Esports demonstrated discipline and seized victory by capitalizing on the spaces created by the Malaysian team. In Game 2, Team SMG initiated a strong offensive but couldn’t overcome the outstanding performance of Sidar “Tienzy” Mentese, who earned the MVP title in both games.

Malaysia celebrated HomeBois‘ convincing victory over Geek Fam. The MPL Malaysia Season 12 champions validated their previous MPLI win by securing a close-fought Game 1 and maintaining momentum in Game 2. Nazhan “Chibi” Nor, recognized as one of Malaysia’s top Junglers, earned MVP honours in both games.

ONIC Esports secured their first win by sweeping Bigetron Sons, dispelling concerns about their Group Stage performance. The MPL Indonesia Season 12 champions put an end to their streak of losing initial group stage matches in M3, MSC 2022, and M4. Looking ahead, ONIC Esports aims to build on their positive start when facing Triple Esports on Day 4.
