Indonesia Game A Space For The Unbound Should Have Won Its Game Awards 2023 Nomination, But…

It’s with sad trepidation that Indonesian and Southeast Asian title A Space For The Unbound did not win its Games For Impact award.

Instead, the award went to Tchia, with the award being received by PlayStation Indies guy Shuhei Yoshida. Other games that earned the nomination include Chant of Sennar, Goodbye Volcano High, and Terra Nil. Tchia does deserve the award given that it touches upon New Caledonia and its culture and it’s positively reviewed due to its gameplay and aeesthetics, especially by us.

Mojiken and Toge Productions: you may not have won an award, but you have won Southeast Asia’s hearts and minds. The fact that you were nominated for a big showcase like the Geoff Keighley annual stage hour and travelled all the way to Los Angeles for the ceremonies is proof of Mojiken and Toge Productions’ dedication. Getting US Visas isn’t easy for Southeast Asians, after all.

So kudos to both companies for representing Southeast Asia. Also, the themes that the game touches on (depression, bullying, abuse, trauma) is pretty heavy and handled in such a crafty and classy way.

Even the Mojiken folks gave their heartfelt congratulations toward the Tchia developers.

At the very least, Goodbye, Volcano High did not win. That’s at least a small victory for many of us who cherish great indie gameplay over pandering tripe.
