Sony Interactive Entertainment Appoints New CEOs To Lead Studios & Platforms
Since ex-Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan left, the company has yet to appoint a permanent CEO to lead the company. At least until now.
Following an official announcement today, SIE’s new CEO is not just one person, but two: Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino. Hermen Hulst will be CEO of SIE’s Studio Business Group while Hideaki Nishino will be CEO of SIE’s Platform Business Group. Meanwhile, the current interim CEO Hiroki Totoki will be serving as chairman of SIE as well as president, chief operating officer, and chief financial officer of the Sony Group Corporation. Hulst and Nishino will report to Totoki.
Here is the latter’s statement on the newly-appointed leadership roles:
“Sony Interactive Entertainment is a dynamic and growing business that delivers incredible entertainment experiences through the connection of content and technology. These two leaders will have clear responsibilities and will manage strategic direction to ensure the focus remains on deepening engagement with existing PlayStation users and expanding experiences to new audiences.”
Hulst is known for leading PlayStation Studios as its senior vice president and head, developing content for PlayStation consoles and PCs, as well as greenlighting video game IP film/TV projects among other mediums. He is also known as the co-founder of Guerilla Games, a game studio that made the Killzone and Horizon series. Nishino is known for being a legacy Sony personnel (apart from his current vice presidential role), as he served his role as a Sony Network Entertainment International senior director and Sony Corporation deputy general manager back in the day.
