2D Platformer Shadow Of The Ninja Reborn Has A Demo Out Right Now

After 33 years, the NES action title Shadow of the Ninja is coming back in current gen form.

Yes, it’s still a 2D pixel graphics game, but it’s a lot more colourful and animated now, with the two ninjas being a bit more “well-formed” than before. Right now, there’s a playable demo of the game now ready on PC (via Steam) and Xbox Series X/S. The PS5/PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions of the demo will be out soon.

This demo is the version we played at Tokyo Game Show 2023; it’s tough, but really pretty and does capture the spirit of the 90s NES title. Check out the trailer and features list below:

  • Caltrops, shuriken, and more!
  • 5 completely recreated stages featuring devious traps and challenging platform puzzles. Plus, a 6th entirely new stage!
  • Grab a friend and get ready for the critically acclaimed couch co-op!
  • Beautiful modern sprite art as a faithful update to the 8-bit original.
  • Play along with the legendary Hiroshi Iwatsuki’s and Iku Mizutani’s electrifying guitar riffs and fast-paced retro melodies.

Shadow of the Ninja Reborn will be out on 29th August for PC and consoles. To see the original 1990 title in action, check out the longplay video below:
