Longlegs Crosses US$100 Million To Become Highest Grossing Indie Movie Of 2024
Longlegs has crossed the US$100 million mark at the global box office to become the highest-grossing independent film release of 2024 so far. With a gross of US$72 million in the U.S. and Canada and a total of US$100 million at the global box office (via Variety), it’s also the top-grossing R-rated horror film of 2024.
It’s also movie distributor Neon’s biggest opening ever, and the highest-grossing opening for an independent horror film of the last decade. All of that is even more impressive considering that the movie’s budget was under US$10 million.
Longlegs is directed by Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel) and stars Nicolas Cage alongside Maika Monroe, with Monroe playing an FBI agent and Cage playing a serial killer.
Perkins’ next project is a Stephen King adaptation titled The Monkey in February 2025.
The synopsis for Longlegs reads:
In the film, “FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.”
Longlegs was shown in Malaysian cinemas in July 2024. In the meantime, check out our glowing review of the movie here to find out why it’s this generation’s Silence Of The Lambs.
