MDEC CEO Mahadhir Aziz Departs After Three-Year Tenure
The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced that Datuk Ts. Mahadhir Aziz has completed a successful three-year tenure as CEO, marking the end of his leadership on 31 August 2024. As he moves on to new endeavours, his departure sets the stage for further growth and innovation within MDEC, building upon the transformative work accomplished during his tenure.
Since taking on the role in September 2021, Datuk Mahadhir has been instrumental in establishing MDEC as a pioneering force in Malaysia’s digital landscape and expanding its influence into new and burgeoning markets. Under his guidance, MDEC accomplished major milestones, such as attracting over RM 170 billion in digital investments and generating more than 85,000 technology-focused jobs.

He also led the transformation of the MSC initiative into Malaysia Digital (MD), drove strategic digital investments, and introduced national programs like the digital nomad visa. His tenure witnessed MDEC exceeding key targets, including facilitating the adoption of e-Commerce by over 1.5 million MSMEs and recording RM144 billion in digitalization investments. This also means lots of video game companies in Malaysia received grants and help from MDEC, alongside keeping expos like Level Up KL going on for SEA game developers to congregate.
As Datuk Mahadhir steps down to explore new opportunities, MDEC remains committed to continuing its strategic trajectory. A Management Council has been set up to oversee the CEO’s responsibilities during the interim period until a new CEO is appointed.
We recently had the chance to interview Datuk Mahadhir for Main Game, discussing the exciting prospects for Malaysia’s video game industry in 2024 and beyond. We extend our best wishes to him as he embarks on the next phase of his journey.
