SEGA has recently filed a trademark for the title, Yakuza Wars, on 26 July 2024 in Japan. This was made public only earlier today.

Yakuza Wars could potentially be the title of the next Like A Dragon game. However, at the time of writing, SEGA or Like A Dragon developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has yet to officially announce anything.

The last title in the franchise was 2023’s Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, which was the ninth main entry.

Released in 2005 by SEGA, the Yakuza game series was positioned as an entertaining game for adults, which found massive fanfare amongst its target audience. The series depicts the lives of fierce yet passionate gangsters and people living in a huge entertainment district, Kamurocho, a fictional district modelled after the violent Shinjuku ward’s Kabukicho, that acts as the backdrop of the gameplay. Like A Dragon Yakuza showcases modern Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters, such as the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, that games in the past have not been able to explore.

The next major product for the franchise will be the upcoming live-action series, Like A Dragon Yakuza, which will premiere on Prime Video on 25 October 2024.
