A Minecraft Movie Gets Its First Trailer & It Looks Trippy
By Alleef Ashaari|September 4, 2024|0 Comment
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming A Minecraft Movie.
The film stars Jack Black (he plays the iconic Minecraft character, Steve), Jason Momoa, Emma Myers (Wednesday), Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Just Mercy, “Lisey’s Story), with Jennifer Coolidge.
The synopsis reads:
Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.
To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess, who previously worked with Black on the 2006 comedy Nacho Libre, is directing the Minecraft movie.
This won’t be Jack Black’s first foray into video game movies. He was famously the voice of Bowser in Illumination and Universal’s The Super Mario Bros Movie, which made a whopping US$1.36 billion worldwide. He also starred in Lionsgate’s Borderlands movie, which premiered in August 2024.
A Minecraft Movie premieres in Malaysian cinemas in April 2025.
Developed by Mojang Studios, the Minecraft franchise is currently the most popular it’s arguably ever been, with several spinoffs, including most recently the RTS game Minecraft Legends, which launched for the PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Xbox Game Pass on 18 April 2023.
