Marvel’s Thunderbolts Trailer Breakdown: Yelena Belova, Bucky, Sentry, & Malaysia
Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for their upcoming Thunderbolts movie, which will premiere in May 2025.
Here’s the breakdown from the ComicsLord:
The Trailer Begins With The Reunion Between Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova AKA Black Widow And David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov AKA Red Guardian

We last saw them in 2021’s Black Widow movie, but this is probably their first time reuniting in the MCU since the events of that movie and everything that’s happened post-Avengers Endgame.
Yelena is likely there to recruit Alexei to join the Thunderbolts.
Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes AKA Winter Soldier Is In Court And Wyatt Russell’s John Walker AKA US Agent Is In Disgrace

This is all fallout from the events of 2021’s The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. John Walker is in disgrace after it was revealed to the public that he murdered a man and Bucky is likely accounting for his actions from his past as the Winter Soldier in court.
It’s hard to assume what the details are from the trailer alone.
This Scene Looks Like It Was Shot And Filmed In Malaysia

We know that some scenes from the Thunderbolts movie were filmed at the Merdeka 118 Tower in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and this looks like it’s part of that.Apparently, this exact location seems to be the HSBC building in Medan Pasar, KL.
But why are Yelena and the others in Malaysia? We still don’t know.
Yelena Stumbles Upon The Rest In A Mysterious Location, Probably Called By Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra De Fontaine
That includes:

Wyatt Russell’s John Walker AKA US Agent.

Olga Kurylenko’s Antonia Dreykov AKA Taskmaster. She was last seen at the end of 2021’s Black Widow.

Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr AKA Ghost. She was last seen all the way in 2018’s Ant-Man And The Wasp.
Our First Look At Robert ‘Bob’ Reynolds AKA The Sentry

Robert ‘Bob’ Reynolds AKA The Sentry will make his MCU debut in Thunderbolts, played by actor Lewis Pullman.

In the comics, The Sentry is a complicated character. He’s basically like Superman meets Shazam, and is said to have the power of a million exploding suns.

However, there is a dark side to his powers. His mind is like Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, so he is mentally unstable. The evil side is controlled by an evil entity called the Void. He was one of the main villains in the crossover storyline, Siege.

We even get to see the logo for the Sentry, which he wears as a belt buckle, in the trailer.

The Trailer Ends With Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra De Fontaine Assembling The Thunderbolts; Bucky Is Actually Hunting Down The Thunderbolts

We see Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra De Fontaine assembling the Thunderbolts.
It’s interesting to see that Bucky won’t be part of the Thunderbolts but will actually be hunting them down, which suits him better since he’s more of a hero and no longer a ‘killer’ following the events of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.
There you have it, folks, we don’t really have much information or details yet but the movie is still far off, and Captain America Brave New World will be premiering earlier in February 2025, so that movie will probably shed more light on what will lead to the formation of the Thunderbolts.
Until then, excelsior!
