Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog is a Visual Novel Sci-Fi Anime deploys in Early 2025

Astrolabe Games, Meridiem Games, and developer Space Colony Studios have released a new trailer for Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog along with a release date for all gaming platforms.

First teased in April, information on Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog has been scarce until now. Players can anticipate an engaging visual novel, reminiscent of classic PC-9800 titles. As the Gun-Dog’s security officer, players will strive to protect the ship from an unknown attacker while navigating the paranoia, conspiracies, and vendettas unfolding among the crew.

In a fashion similar to point-and-click adventures, players can explore the Gun-Dog ship and scrutinize various rooms for details. Moreover, they can engage with fellow crew members to gather vital information that could unveil significant clues about the unfolding mystery.

The game boasts an expansive cast of characters, including Captain Bartermews, Lieutenant Commander Cassandra Quinn, and Chief Mackenzie Cathays, each with distinct personalities, roles, and backgrounds. Players will need to familiarize themselves with their quirks and decide whether to collaborate with or oppose them in order to unravel the story’s central mystery.

Set in Planetary Calendar 214, four years after the conclusion of the Solar War, the protagonist, haunted by the loss of their crewmates in the war, is reassigned to the Jovian patrol ship Gun-Dog, tasked with investigating enigmatic signals originating from the edge of Jovian Space. Unknown to the Gun-Dog’s crew, a new peril lurks deep within the ocean of stars, endangering not only the Gun-Dog but all of its crew.

Featuring a vintage green screen aesthetic, the developer aims to deliver an “era-authentic” game that exudes retro vibes in every aspect, from the text to the visual effects. As the Jovian patrol ship navigates the darkness amidst the stars, players will feel as though they are embarking on an 80s Sci-Fi adventure as they strive to crack the mystery, they find themselves embroiled in.

Alongside the announcement, those interested can try out the playable demo inclusive of the Full-Colored mode starting today for PlayStation and Steam, followed by Switch on 19 September 2024.

Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog is scheduled for launch on 20 February 2025 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
