IO Interactive Speaks On It’s Bold Mission To Redefine Bond For Gamers
IO Interactive has big ambitions for its upcoming James Bond game, aiming for it to be the start of a full trilogy.
The creators of Hitman first teased Project 007 back in November 2020 with a short CGI trailer. While details have been scarce since, the game promises an entirely original Bond storyline, unlinked to any of the movies.
In a recent interview with IGN, IO Interactive’s CEO Hakan Abrak shared more about the studio’s vision for the game.
“This isn’t just a movie adaptation. We’re building a brand-new Bond story from the ground up, with hopes that it will launch a trilogy. What’s especially exciting is that it features a young Bond—one that’s been crafted specifically for gamers. Our goal is to create a Bond that players can connect with and see evolve.”
Abrak also pointed out that the lack of Bond games in recent years works to their advantage. With the iconic spy absent from the gaming scene for a while, the team sees an opportunity to make a lasting mark—similar to how GoldenEye (1997) became a classic.
“I don’t want to overhype it,” Abrak added, “but we’re striving to define what Bond in gaming can be for years to come. We’re not just making a single game, but hopefully creating a universe that gamers can immerse themselves in for the long term, alongside the films.”
As for when fans can expect more details, Abrak hinted that it won’t be much longer.
“The production is going really well. Although we’ve only shared a small teaser so far, there’s a lot more to come, and we’re excited to reveal more when the time is right.”
In other news, IO Interactive has recently expanded into third-party publishing. Their first project under this new initiative is MindsEye, a AAA game from Build A Rocket Boy, the studio founded by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies.
