iCandy Files Lawsuit Against The Founders Of This Prominent Malaysian Game Studio; Here’s Why
It seems 2024 may not be Lemon Sky Studios’s year, at least for the people who started the company.
After the Malaysian game development and asset-making company’s founding members departed in August 2024, the parents of the company will be commencing legal action against the individuals months later.
In a press statement (via Nmia Gaming), iCandy Interactive will be taking legal action against Lemon Sky’s former CEO Cheng-Fei Wong and former COO Ka King Foong. This is because while the CEO and COO were still in the company, they allegedly took money from the company and put it in an undisclosed privately-held company dubbed Momodica Sdn. Bhd; about RM1.5 million (RM1,505,750 to be exact.
Fei Wong and King Foong own Momodica, so file this case under alleged embezzlement.
“Lemon Sky does not rule out the possibility of bringing further legal actions against Wong, Foong, Momodica, and other former or current employees of Lemon Sky that had been knowingly facilitating these ill-intentioned activities or similar.”
No specific charges like an injunction have been mentioned in the above press statement, but iCandy is most likely sorting that out if this is true.
Back in 2021, the company has been outed for supporting crunch culture and not paying for overtime in a People Made Games video.
In 2021, iCandy acquired Lemon Sky Studios for RM135 million.
In 2023, Momodica was created.
In 2024, Lemon Sky Studios founders Cheng-Fei Wong and Ka King Foong left the company.
In November 2024, Cheng-Fei Wong started a new game and art studio called Spiky Things.
