Horror Icon & Venom Voice Actor Tony Todd Has Died
Sad news for horror fans all across the world: venerable actor Tony Todd has passed away. He was 69.
The cause of death has yet to be disclosed at this point in time.
While the actor started his Hollywood career with Oliver Stone’s Platoon in 1986, he was more famous for his role as horror icon Candyman in the movie series of the same name. He is also prominent in the Final Destination horror films.
From 1992 onward, he brought chills down every horror fan’s spine and gave them goosebumps from his performance as Candyman alone (and in broad daylight to boot). His deep voice and menacing presence have been seared in everybody’s minds, earning him his spot in Hollywood’s horror movie hall of fame from then and until now.
Hell, he wasn’t even in the new 2021 Candyman movie much, and he still left a chilling presence to people who watched the film (SPOILER WARNING: click on this link at your own risk).
Beyond horror films, he has been in many sci-fi, comic book, and video game properties. He played Kurn in Star Trek: The Next Generation, he voiced Zoom in The Flash (CW version), Darkseid in some DC Animated films, and Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
He also voiced a bunch of heroes in Dota 2, like Dragon Knight, Night Stalker, Viper, and Slyrak.
His Candyman co-star Virginia Madsen recently posted a video tribute to him on Instagram:
“May you rest in power sweet to the sweet in heaven. The great actor Tony Todd has left us and now is an angel. As he was in life. More later but I can’t right now. I love you.”
Speaking of Spider-Man 2, Insomniac recently posted a condolence message to the late actor.
