A New Gundam Anime With An Unpronounceable Name Is Coming From Evangelion Studio
By Alleef Ashaari|December 4, 2024|0 Comment
Sunrise and Khara have announced a new anime series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (apparently pronounced as ‘Geeku-akusu’ or “GQwarks”).
Sunrise is the owner of the Gundam IP while Khara is the studio animating Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (Khara is best known for making the Rebuild Of Evangelion movies, not the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime).
The synopsis reads:
Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space.
When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.
Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.
Now their world is about to enter a new era.
The TV anime series is scheduled to air in Japan on the Nihon Television Network stations in the near future. Ahead of the TV premiere, a theatrical version using re-edited episodes, titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Beginning, will screen in Japanese theatres on 17 January 2025.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is co-produced by studio Khara, which handled the Evangelion movie series, and Sunrise, which has worked on the Gundam series since the first TV anime series in 1979.
Kazuya Tsurumaki, who directed the Rebuild of Evangelion film series including the final instalment Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, serves as the director, alongside series composition writer Yoji Enokido, character designer take and mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita.
Additionally, the voice cast for the three main characters was announced:
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is the first brand-new standalone Gundam anime since 2022’s Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch From Mercury.
At the time of writing, there is no premiere date for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX yet.
