Clayface Movie Is In The Works With Midnight Mass Creator & Horror Master Mike Flanagan

According to reports by Variety and Deadline, Clayface is officially joining the new DC Universe with horror master Mike Flanagan attached to the project to write the script.

Flanagan has been one of the biggest talents in horror in recent years, responsible for horror hits such as Netflix horror series The Haunting of Hill House (2018), The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020), Midnight Mass (2021), The Midnight Club (2022), and The Fall Of The House of Usher (2023).

Flanagan, who first pitched DC Studios on a Clayface project in 2023, tweeted in 2021 that he was “really keen to do a standalone Clayface movie as a horror/thriller/tragedy.” However, since he’s already busy with other projects such as a new The Exorcist movie and others, he probably won’t be directing the Clayface movie.

Clayface is one of Batman’s most iconic villains. His most famous origin is as a washed-up actor who turns to crime after he becomes a grotesque monster with shapeshifting abilities. However, despite having been around for decades, Clayface has never been in a live-action movie.

The Creature Commandos series on Max Malaysia officially kicked off the new DCU or DC Universe, with the upcoming Superman movie in July 2025 set to be the first live-action movie. You can read more about the rest of the planned movies and TV shows in the DCU by heading over here.

Who knows, we might even see Clayface make his DCU debut in Creature Commandos soon…
