Screamer Returns With Anime-Inspired Tale Of Revenge

Get ready to rev your engines, because Milestone is resurrecting its classic racing series, Screamer, and it’s not the same arcade racer you remember. Announced during The Game Awards, the game is getting a reimagined, anime-inspired twist, with a darker edge. Set in a neon-lit city straight out of ‘80s and ‘90s anime, the new Screamer aims to blend the classic arcade racing action with a gripping story that dives deep into revenge, love, and human will.

Though the trailer kept the gameplay under wraps, Milestone teased a narrative-heavy experience, promising multiple character arcs and animated cutscenes created in collaboration with Polygon Pictures—those same folks who brought Tron: Uprising and Pacific Rim: The Black to life. And if that wasn’t enough, The Last of Us star Troy Baker lends his voice to a key character, so expect some emotional weight behind those high-speed chases.

The original Screamer debuted in 1995, offering a thrilling arcade racing experience for PC gamers who were missing Ridge Racer or Daytona USA on their consoles. This new version of Screamer revs up for a 2026 release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S, promising an adrenaline-pumping ride with a plot that’s anything but ordinary.
