SNK Did Mai Shiranui’s Definitive Theme Justice In Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
Fatal Fury’s buxom ninja Mai Shiranui made her debut in Fatal Fury 2 at the arcades back in 1992. While she’s a monumental presence at contesting Street Fighter’s Chun-Li as the queen of fighting games, her theme was pretty standard. Good and well-composed at the time, but doesn’t really do justice to her bubbly personality; it’s a little more spiritual than “jiggly ninja” material.
That all changed in Real Bout Fatal Fury Special in 1997, when Mai got her definitive theme that exuberates her jolly and flirty disposition. It’s so representative of her that the upcoming Fatal Fury game for current gen consoles did a saxophone-laced and fast-paced remix of it.
Check out the comparison between the new remix, the Real Bout Fatal Fury Special debut of “Mai Mai Kyun/Always Zooming”, and the arranged version with lyrics sung by Mai Shiranui voice actress Akoya Sogi.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be out on 24th April 2025.
