Until Dawn Movie Trailer Showcases Wendigo & Live-Action Respawn Mechanic For The Characters

Sony Pictures has unveiled the first full trailer for the upcoming live-action Until Dawn movie adaptation, which will premiere on 25 April 2025.

The characters in the movie will have a limited number of lives, which sort of functions as a live-action respawn mechanic.

We also get a glimpse at the movie’s many monsters and creatures, including what seems to be the movie’s take on the game’s Wendigo.

Directed by David F. Sandberg and a script by Gary Dauberman, the Until Dawn movie stars Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Odessa A’zion, Maia Mitchell and Peter Stormare (who reprises his role from the game).

The official synopsis for the Until Dawn movie reads:

One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening.

Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again and again – only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.

David F. Sandberg is best known for directing both Shazam! movies (2019’s Shazam! and 2023’s Shazam! Fury Of The Gods) and several horror movies including 2016’s Lights Out and 2017’s Annabelle Creation.

Until Dawn is a 2015 interactive drama horror game from Supermassive Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Players take control of eight young adults who have to survive on Blackwood Mountain when their lives are threatened. The game features a butterfly effect system in which players must make choices that may change the story. All playable characters can survive or die, depending on the choices made. Players explore the environment from a third-person POV and discover clues that help solve the mystery.

The Until Dawn remake/remaster is out now for PS5 and PC.
