2D Run-And-Gun Shooter Neon Inferno Launches Late 2025

Developer Zenovia, known for its hit 2D action game Steel Assault, will be making a new 2D run-and-gun game called Neon Inferno. Fans of this sort of 2D gaming may be pleased to know that it’s coming out later this year.

Neon Inferno now has a new publisher: Retroware. With that in tow, the indie action game now has a release window: Q3 2025 for PC, Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. For those not in the know, Neon Inferno takes place in a sci-fi world, has two protagonists to switch between, and features both run-and-gun shooting and gallery shooting segments where you can attack enemies in the background who are relaying fire back at you.

Check out the game’s key features and new publisher trailer below:

Features

  • Shoot Close, Aim Far – A dynamic blend of side-scroller and gallery-shooter, where the action takes place in both foreground and background (like playing Contra and Wild Guns at the same time).
  • Glorious 32-Bit Style – A science-fiction cityscape rendered in beautiful pixel art and backed by an evocative soundtrack.
  • Two-Player Cooperative Play – With danger lurking around every street corner, wouldn’t you be better off with a friend?
  • Satisfying Arcade Challenge – Enjoy a playthrough on an easier mode…or put your skills and resilience to the test with 1-credit-clear arcade mode.
