Stellar Blade Devs Bet Big on PC, Expect It to Outsell PS5
Shift Up, the brains behind Stellar Blade, reckon the game’s PC release will leave its PS5 counterpart in the dust.
Speaking in a post-earnings Q&A for 2024, the studio was asked how well they expected the PC version to perform. Their answer? PC gaming is king, especially in Asia, where players outnumber console users by a mile.

“In the AAA game market, PC devices have a higher market share than consoles,” Shift Up explained, noting that the single-player action genre is booming in the region. They’ve been studying the success (and spectacular failures) of console exclusives making the jump to PC, determined to ensure Stellar Blade thrives beyond Sony’s ecosystem.
To tip the scales in their favour, Shift Up is pulling out all the stops—optimising performance, improving quality-of-life features, adding extra content, and crafting a marketing plan specifically for the PC crowd. The game is also being fine-tuned for ultra-portable gaming on devices like the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally.

Not that the PS5 launch was a flop. The game already shifted over a million copies worldwide, and the studio credits its ongoing updates—almost live-service-esque—for building a loyal fanbase. But in the battle of platforms, Shift Up clearly thinks PC will reign supreme.
Let’s just hope it’s not another case of “bad port syndrome.”
