This Kickstarter Documentary Is About Stan Lee’s Final Years Of Being Exploited
Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee was a pioneer and perfect pitch guy for superhero books back then, but did you know that his final years was nothing but being exploited by former business partners for commercial gain?
This new Kickstarter project from director Jon Bolerjack is exactly about that, as it’s called Stan Lee: The Final Chapter. From Bolerjack’s years of working for Stan Lee as one of his assistants, he has been taking footage of his final years and a lot of behind-the-scenes video of Stan Lee post-presentation and autograph work, where he was worked to the bone making appearances and doing signatures under pressure, duress, and with ailing health issues.
Here are some quotes from Bolerjack regarding the project:
“It was an absolute dream come true for me to get to intimately know, befriend and travel the world with one of my life’s icons, Stan Lee. He entrusted me to capture the final years of his life on video and encouraged me to share this footage with the world after he was gone. And after witnessing how a handful of people who surrounded him continually betrayed him in his weakened condition, I felt it was left to me to tell this shockingly and truly heartbreaking story of his last days.”
For context, Stan Lee filed a restraining order against ex-business partner Keya Morgan before he passed away in November 2018. Morgan was previously arrested on elder abuse charges. In lawsuits filed against Morgan and attorney, Lee called them “unscrupulous businessmen, sycophants and opportunists”.
At this point in time, the Kickstarter project is at US$30,584, with its pledge total goal being US$300,000. All the money is going to production and post-production.
