Sonic X Shadow Speeds Into Switch 2 Launch

Sega has just added a splash of hedgehog-flavoured chaos to the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch day buffet. That’s right—Sonic X Shadow Generations is revving up for a day-one release on 5 June, joining the slightly less spiky Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut and the utterly bonkers Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S. Yes, that’s now three Sega titles ready to blow your socks off or, at the very least, mildly tickle your nostalgia glands.

And this isn’t just Sonic doing his usual blue blur routine. No, this time, Shadow—the edgier, moodier cousin in the Sonic family tree—gets top billing in his very own story campaign. Think dark eyeliner, chaos powers, and enough attitude to make a mid-2000s Hot Topic store blush. Sega claims this new chapter will showcase “never-before-seen abilities,” which, let’s be honest, could be anything from teleportation to brooding in a corner with dramatic lighting.

But don’t worry, old-school fans, you’re still getting a full-blown remaster of Sonic Generations as part of the package—basically a Sonic greatest-hits album with time travel, souped-up visuals, and a smattering of bonus goodies for the obsessives. It’s like someone took all the best bits of Sonic’s awkward 3D years, polished them up, and threw in a bit of emo flair.

This means Sega’s Switch 2 launch roster is shaping up to be a respectable one—even if it’s mostly a love letter to the past, written in speed lines and PowerPoint transitions.

And if you thought that was it, Sega’s not slowing down. Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army drops 19 June, which sounds like a JRPG crossed with a late-night anime fever dream. Then there’s Two Point Museum coming later this year, presumably a sim game where you finally get to put a dinosaur skeleton next to a vending machine and call it culture.

Interestingly, Sonic X Shadow Generations has already dashed past 2 million copies sold, which is impressive… but still lagging behind Sonic Frontiers, the current 3D Sonic champ with 3.5 million. Still, for a game about two genetically questionable hedgehogs running through space and time, that’s not a bad outing.

So there you have it: on 5 June, when the Switch 2 goes live, Sega’s bringing speed, style, and some serious shade. Literally.
