Tekken 8 Season 2 Patch Just Gave The Game A Negative Rating On Steam; Here’s Why
By Jonathan Toyad|April 2, 2025|0 Comment
A lot of 3D fighting game fans were waiting for Tekken 8’s Season 2 launch and patches. The update was pushed back multiple times as its developers were making sure it’s as polished as it could get.
Now that the patch is out, how does it fare? Not that well, unfortunately. In fact, this is a huge misstep in the eyes of the community.
Tekken 8’s Season 2 patch is universally panned and review bombed on Steam. Previously, Tekken 8 gave more characters aggressive 50/50 setups and moves where players had to guess with their lives lest they eat a game-ending combo that led them to a corner. The patch promised more defensive options like buffed sidesteps. Now, characters have even more 50/50 setups and new homing moves to counter sidestepping. In other words, the developers added in new defensive options as well as new ways for characters to nullify them. Also, the game introduced many game-breaking bugs and interactions like so, involving Paul Phoenix and Jack-8:

This might be the craziest tekken move Ive seen yet. The only option you have to beat this new Hugo Hulk Gamma Clap is to armor. You can't step it, you can't mash jab, it loops into itself, and he can fake out the jump so it isn't reactable. AND IT COMES FROM JACKS i11 2,1. WTF pic.twitter.com/21OlWR5uwf

The backlash against Tekken 8 Season 2’s patches is so overwhelmingly negative that a few pro players are threatening to quit the game. Here are some choice quotes from these players:
“After playing season 2, I gotta say we were so ungrateful to season 1.” – Arslan Ash
“Tekken is the most fun when you’re playing the player. It takes FOREVER to get there, for the past few games, but that s**t feels like it’s totally lost. Without hard Sidestep knowledge, my % before was like 3/10. Now it’s like 1/10 if I just try to do it. So I stopped sidestepping completely.” – Maximillian
Is This the worst patch in Tekken history?

I think the emergency patch coming before TWT starts should include nerfs to literally every character on the roster.

I don’t feel so good y’all, I’m genuinely wondering what happened to the game i love. You shouldn’t block anymore, it’s mash or guess 24/7 and every heat move in the game feels like a heat smash
I’m going to keep playing but I’m hoping they just.. revert it somehow.

Until Bandai Namco and the Tekken team sort this mess out, we may be seeing a very, VERY one-sided Tekken World Tour tournament debut this year.
