Top Gun & Batman Forever Star Val Kilmer Has Died
Sad news for fans of Top Gun and mainstream pop culture in general: one of the most iconic Hollywood actors of our time has passed away.
Val Kilmer has died on 1st April in Los Angeles due to pneumonia (via New York Times). He was 65. He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 and later recovered.
Val Kilmer’s filmography is numerous to say the least. He made his debut in the Zucker Brothers comedy film Top Secret! as rock & roll star Nick Rivers. He then starred in Real Genius, and eventually got cast in his iconic role in action film Top Gun: LT Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.
His other iconic roles include playing Madmartigan in fantasy show Willow, Jim Morrison in The Doors, Doc Holliday in Tombstone, and Bruce Wayne in Batman Forever. The 90s was truly a time for Val Kilmer. This was also the time when he started getting the reputation of being difficult to work with and having feuds with actors behind the scene.
In the 2000s, he starred in low-profile-but-still-highly-acclaimed films like The Salton Sea, Wonderland, and The Missing. He also was the voice of Moses and God in the hit animated movie The Prince of Egypt.
His last film appearance was in Top Gun: Maverick. You will be missed, Iceman, and thank you for entertaining us with your acting & work.
